Elysium
Hylas 46

The Hylas 46 is a center cockpit German Frers design built in the Queen Long Yacht Yard in Taiwan.  Our Hylas is Hull 35 and was built in 2001.

We fell in love with the Hylas for many reasons.  The huge aft centerline queen berth with en suite head, including a separate shower was a highlight.  At 46', she was a bit larger than we had originally planned for easy double handing, but the conservative sail plan with in mast furling was a selling point.  The cutter rig was another upside, as the additional headsail will give us many options in varied wind and weather conditions.  Inside, the second state room forward, with it's own en suite head forward in the bow was a huge bonus as well.  We loved the galley style galley for it's security underway as we plan to make some pretty big passages, and the nav station is well located and organized.  Up top, you get solid footing going forward with a wide deck, the sugar scoop on the aft allows easy access to and from the dinghy for loading provisions and people.  Watertight collision bulkhead fore of the guest stateroom adds another level of safety.  There are so many features that were well thought out in the Hylas that make it a great boat to live on and make serious blue water passages, while at the same time, she's super fun and fast to sail.  She has a partial skeg hung rudder, solid lead keel with bulb and is ICW friendly, with mast at just under 65'.  Ultimately, it was the support from Hylas and other Hylas owners which convinced us this was the right boat for us.
