With Lake Huron in the rear view, I can only say I'm relieved. She did not treat us well the 1st time we transited in 2020, as our friends Chris and Tater can attest, and we encountered gale force winds making our way from Port Huron to Mackinac Island. Luckily, this time was much better as we were able to pick and choose some calm days, and it's not October! We still woke up to temps in the 40s, but things warmed up during the day when the sun came out. It was hard to believe it was still August. Even talking to the locals they say it's been very slow on the lake this summer, with the weather being bad, and some loopers have even completely canceled their trips. The great lakes are not to be underestimated, they pack a powerful punch in the wrong conditions. The lakes are abundant with the most amazing shipwrecks, some over 100 years old. They are perfectly preserved 100s of feet down in the cold, fresh water of these lakes.

Check out Chris Roxburgh on Facebook and take a look at some of the ships he has dove on the Great Lakes. I'm absolutely amazed!

At around 2 weeks and 600nm into the journey, we are feeling pretty tired, but on track to make it to Buffalo, NY by September 5th. In Buffalo, we will get our mast removed for the transit through the Erie Canal. I'm very much looking forward to that leg of our journey, when we can slow things down and start to enjoy some of the sights and history of that interesting waterway. But we aren't there yet, and Lake Erie has taught us that she is also to be taken seriously, with her shallow waters, and waves that build up quite quickly and in quick succession.

For now, we are glad to be in Port Huron, off the lake with some nasty weather rolling through this evening. We should have a speedy trip down river with the current, across St Clair Lake, past Detroit and out into Lake Erie.
