We said goodbye to Lake Michigan on the 24th of August. It was a gloomy, foggy day, with flat seas. It was bitter sweet, knowing we don't plan to bring Elysium back this way. Lake Michigan, and all the beautiful, crazy conditions she offers is where we became sailors. The lake is home and the sailors we have shared the journey with are family. We are so grateful for the racing programs we have been a part of there, Pandora, Jump, Imedi, Jasmine, and my heart, Scarlet Begonias. We shared many summers filled with laughing, biting flies, frozen fingers and 2 am watches. As we sailed up the lake on Elysium and I saw places like Point Betsie, Little Sable, the Manitos, Grays Reef and the Mackinac Bridge, so many memories came rushing back. Letter box douses, cooling down with a foot bucket, drifting in the manitos, flying the kite under the bridge, all the different finishes we had, and so many 'interesting' point Betsie stories. When I was asked to race my 1st Mac, I had no idea what to expect, I couldn't have imagined it. I suspect this journey will be the same, as we can only live the moment we are in. I am grateful to have my husband by my side, a beautiful and brilliant co-captain on the boat and in life. I also look forward to writing many chapters together with our family, Chicago sailing family and friends along the way. ⛵️💕
